(This is a repost of my work for Trendio as the music publication is no longer online. RIP. Originally posted on June 05, 2018.)
Last week on June 5, 2018, Chicago native and NYC transplant, John Splithoff celebrated his birthday in musical fashion with a show to kick of his five date summer tour. The charismatic crooner captivated the audience with his dance moves and guitar skills while performing his big hits “What If She Wants You”, “Sing to Me”, "Raye" and more. In his 12-song set, Splithoff also showed off some new music that he’s been working on to reward the packed crowd for coming out to celebrate with him. There was even a sweet moment before his encore set where his band, and his fans, presented him with a cake with lit candles and sang him happy birthday.
Openers included two up-and-coming names, B.Miles and Janelle Kroll. Both of the artists had great music and kept the Trendio team wanting more, and we’ll definitely be keeping up with them as they continue to thrive and make waves. The Bowery Ballroom’s intimate space was the perfect place for all three performers’ styles and dancing seemed less of an option and more of a natural response to the grooves being played.
Splithoff recently played in Nashville and at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and will be playing two more sets in his hometown for Lollapalooza/Lollapalooza Official After-shows on June 31 and August 5 so if you’re in the area or checking out the festival, make sure to catch him as well! The Trendio team can't wait to see which tracks will make the cut for his next release and we'll be sure to keep you posted on when that day comes.
